Ladies and gentlemen, this morning we do not take another step toward annihilation. Today, we take the first step on the path to peace. -Dr. Abraham Erskine

Shield Toss

This deck came out of a desire to make optimal use of my favorite Captain America card, Shield Toss. At the right moment, it's one of the most satisfying attacks in the game, ricocheting to defeat multiple enemies in one strike. But how do we make sure Shield Toss is in our hand at the right time?

Here, we engineer Captain America with special tools to give him unprecedented control over his actions:

  • Domino: Here, we use Domino to save cards for future turns. How this works is very simple. After we've drawn all our cards for the turn (including any extras from Avengers Mansion, etc.), we may activate Domino to switch a card in our hand with the top card of the deck. The card we choose is now available on the following turn, even if we spend our whole hand! This can be used to save Shield Toss for when there are more targets, but other cards are also fair game. Couldn't use Shield Block because you started the turn in alter-ego? Save it for the next villain phase. Too many Heroic Strikes in hand but want to play them all? Save one for next round. Cap’ particularly likes to spend his whole hand, since pitching a card for “I Can Do This All Day!” is an efficient use of any spare, so this is a neat way to save cards for later.
  • Ghost-Spider: Finds Captain America events. Get her into play with Make the Call, and haste her out with Command Team if needed.
  • Hope Summers: Another way to find Shield Toss and Fearless Determination. Unfortunately doesn't trigger her response off Make the Call.
  • Weapon X: The namesake of the deck. This deck is designed around playing Captain America's identity-specific cards, and this helps you do that. Especially helpful for helping you reset your deck faster so you can see your events again. Get it into play with Build Support. This one's actually pretty thematic on Captain America, being a bio-engineered super soldier and a product of the Weapon I program.

The above tools are all about facilitating precise timing and intentional play. You should field like an unstoppable force programming your next move like a cyborg.

Make the Call is another key card in the deck to give us more flexibility on when we play Domino and get Ghost-Spider in play repeatedly. Other than that, we're running a suite of Leadership support tools, including upgrades intended for Domino but that could as easily go on another player's star ally. Wolverine, anyone?

For solo play, I'd swap Mission Leader and Cell Phone for Falcon and Professor X. Falcon's scrying synergizes really well with Domino's ability to prepare for next round!

Please leave a like and a comment if you enjoyed this! I've actually been struggling for a long time to come up with a Captain America deck I actually enjoy, and this one suits my tastes perfectly.
