"I've mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still, that I become invisible to the eye."

Drax is here with his knife, the Guardians, and errr.. his other knife!! This is a Drax build focused on keeping Drax in hero form and never flipping to his alter-ego side. The goal is to keep 3 vengeance counters on him without flipping to alter-ego as this would force him to reset those counters. After Drax's Knife is out he has 5 attack and can play Knife Leap at 0 cost. Intimidation also removes 5 threat and Parry prevents 10 damage!

"When you're ugly and someone loves you, you know they love you for who you are. Beautiful people never know how to trust."

Mantis is one of my favorite Guardians and is core to this strategy. Her healing is great and you continually heal her with Med Team and First Aid so that she continues to heal Drax for 3 damage or more if we ready her again. We have 3 copies of Med team so that we can draw it frequently and play it whenever we have the right resources to. If you use all counters of Med Team just for Mantis, you are effectively healing 18 hit points from Drax by this method. She'll have to be the Nurse Joy of Marvel Champions until her hero pack is announced! #FingersCrossed

We are using only grey allies because we are running The Power in All of Us and Strength, Genius, Energy as the only resources. These resources also help us pay for C.I.T.T.'s action (including TPiAoU) which can ready Drax to attack, ready Mantis to heal again this turn, or ready the other Guardian allies we have.

"Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast, I would catch it."

The build otherwise is pretty straightforward, get out the cheap upgrades like Drax's Knife and Armored Vest so that his whole kit is more effective. Intimidation will remove more threat and Counter-Punch / Payback will hit like a truck for 0 cost! Getting ready or removing stun is important so we have The Night Nurse, Desperate Defense, and C.I.T.T. I hope you ~pretends to slash finger over throat~ kill lots of big bads with this deck!

Like your take on how to use Mantis! I wanted to try Drax outside of protection but so far it seems like the more viable approach, your deck seems like a fun way to pull it off!

Thx!

@neothechosenBig fan of yours! Thanks for looking at my list! Yeah, I was looking forward to a Mantis hero pack but we are getting the Mantis Ally first so I immediately wanted to find the best synergy to utilize her! Keeping Drax topped off so he can continue doing large damage. Haha

@TrashPanda Thanks! I was surprised that Mantis was a dedicated ally, Guardians don't always have them and I expected a pack too.

Awesome deck!

Am I reading it right that you're saying TPiAoU counts as double resources to pay for CITT's action to ready Drax? I never associated card action cost as paying for the card before so I'm not sure that's right. I'm ready to be proven wrong and re-evaluate that card though!

@Airtask he's right, there's a question answered on a equivalent topic, you can find it in thr rulings section of hall of heroes lcg page, that says you can use spiderwoman's Finesse to pay for Jarnbjorn activation, so the same reasoning should apply for this.

Jun 20, 2021 TrashPanda · 1235

@Airtask Yes, I am also referring to @fergan's ruling of Spider-Woman's Finesse being able to pay for aspect card 'action' costs! It's awesome right. The updated Rules and Reference Guide with the game developer's ruling can be found on Hall Of Heroes. Thanks for checking out the deck @Airtask and @fergan. I just love the combo of readying Mantis with CITT and healing for 6 a turn! Haha and I'm ready to use the CITT and TPiAoU strat in other Guardian decks, woo!

How is threat removal in this deck?

Jun 21, 2021 TrashPanda · 1235

@Biggieshot1970 it's pretty good from my experience. This build is intended for multiplayer so ideally pairing with Justice would help a lot because Drax can do a lot of damage. However as a solo champ, Intimidation can remove 5 threat at full attack value, and you can choose to run more Bait and Switches if you need to, but you also have allies to thwart. It's also designed to never flip to alter-ego so we the villain and minions not activating for Scheming going for us. Let me know what you think!

The idea of the deck is truly neat, I'll try as soon as I get my hands on Drax (which will probably be on TTS because I depend on international shipping so I won't him till next month). Anyways, great write up man.

I made some adjustments @TrashPanda to your deck and Its super broken now and I suggest try adding all 3 copies of Leading blow

Jun 21, 2021 TrashPanda · 1235

@Biggieshot1970 oh snap, thanks! I'll try it out. Did you take anything out and which villain did you play against?

Jun 21, 2021 Biggieshot1970 · 1

I don't use those allies other then Ironheart the other 2 use are Starhawk and Clea.

Jun 21, 2021 Biggieshot1970 · 1

And then took out first aid

Jun 21, 2021 Biggieshot1970 · 1

@TrashPandaand I played task master expert and expert goblin (formula)

Jun 21, 2021 Biggieshot1970 · 1

@TrashPanda I'm thinking about also taking out armored vest because it usually sets me back a turn

Jun 21, 2021 TrashPanda · 1235

@Biggieshot1970 Haha that's great. I'm glad you are enjoying playing Drax. Yeah that helps if your plan is to rush down the villain rather than set up.

Nice allies as well, 2 cost is great. I love the flexibility of TPiAoU and the other resources to pay for the other guardians and being able to ready them with CITT based on the situation.

@TrashPanda I think Booster Boots may be more effective then Armored Vest

Jun 24, 2021 Damaskinous · 1

@TrashPanda ever thought of putting in get behind me? It seems like it would be a good fit for drax.

Jun 25, 2021 The_Wall · 127

When playing this against Kang you're gonna have a bad time: Depowered absolutely wrecks your tempo. Also you might struggle to get going against Hostile Takeover Green Goblin, not that its a hard villain outside of chucking modular Ronan in there.

Personally I'd cut Armored Vest, Counter-Punch, and Desperate Defense, for Booster Boots and some more events. I've tried a 2/2/2/2 split of Bait and Switch / Leading Blow / Preemptive Strike / Side Step and it works very nicely.

Yet another bad ass deck! Taken out Taskmaster, Zola, and Klaw on expert so far!

Jun 26, 2021 TrashPanda · 1235

@The_WallHaha yeah I actually played against Kang Masters of Time with this deck! Got some bad obligation cards but mostly Stolen Memories.

Yeah there are some pretty powerful combos overall. I think I'll update my write up with an appendix of possible alternatives because there are a lot and they can all work depending on the villain you play and the cards you choose against them. Thanks for the suggestions. Glad you are enjoying Drax!

Jun 26, 2021 TrashPanda · 1235

@takabrashThank you for your compliment!! I play this deck on Expert as well! Gotta get my vengeance on Thanos soon!!!

I've been looking for a solid protection build with Drax. I really enjoy this. I just have one question, what are your thoughts on Leading Blow?

Jul 16, 2021 rstorcdk · 4683

Just tried building Venom similar to this and holy crap! easy win Vs expert mutagen formula. Going for All basic allies with The Power in All of Us and choosing 1 cost cards from an aspect is extremely fluid. I will post that deck when it becomes available on this page. Thanks for the inspiration mate.

I don't think tpiaou laying for CITT is the same ruling as finesse and jarnbjorn. ffinesse reads "generate a wild resource for an aspect card" while tpiaou reads "generate 2 wild resources when paying for a basic card". I guess it boils down to if spending resources on a card is the same as paying for it

Jul 22, 2021 Mammonite · 1

Dougler is correct, play is a defined term and the power in all of us can't be used in this way. marvelcdb.com

@rstorcdkThank you! Have fun playing Venom, I'll check out your deck!!

Jul 23, 2021 Mammonite · 1

I've been convinced I'm wrong and look forward to trying Drax with TPIAOU. Thank you for finding sharing this combo!

Jul 30, 2021 Carquinyoli · 216

Hi @TrashPanda, I made a deck based in yours, specially regarding the use of TPiAoU to pay for CITT's action (and to bring basic allies to the table), but I got feedback saying that's not possible (the comparison with Finese/Jarnborn is not valid). I opened a threat in BGG here: boardgamegeek.com and there seems to be consensus about the above not working. I think TPiAoU is still useful to pay for all the allies and Avengers Mansion, so I'll keep using it, but it shouldn't pay for CITT's action to ready Drax. Just to let you know.
