Yzma: So, is everything ready for tonight?

Kronk: Oh, yeah. I thought we'd start off with soup and a light salad, and then see how we feel after that.

Yzma: Not the dinner. You know...

Kronk: Oh, right. The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison. That poison?

Yzma: Yes! That poison.

Kronk: Got you covered.

Yzma: Excellent. A few drops in his drink, and then I'll propose a toast, and he will be dead before dessert.

This is a perfect-protection Venom Deck with the intent to invalidate minion attacks against another player. This allows the aggression player to pack 3 copies of "Bring It!" and slowly start to benefit more and more from the minions stacking up in front of them.

  • Pairs well with Captain Marvel Smash Cash
  • I'm working up a Cable deck with the same central idea (Man on the Wall and "Bring It!")
  • This will pair well with Tigra in any aspect (since she has a built in card-draw mechanic) but in Aggression she can also include "Bring It!" for more card draw

Mitigating Minions

Not too complicated here. There are a couple ways that protection can negate and otherwise invalidate minions (preferably in front of another player who can profit from their being there)

  • three copies of Pinned Down can make most minions "attack" for zero each time. At zero cost, this is the best way to pull their teeth
  • Groot loves to block minion activations, because he heals after he does so
  • Hangar Bay can ready Groot so he can defend twice, and Shake it Off can give him a tough. This lets him block the Villain's attack against one of your teammates (then of course be ready to defend a minion attack as well)

Perfect Defense Venom does Defense things AND Venom Things

Venom plays well in perfect defense for a few compelling reasons

  • base defense is 2, enhanced to 4 by the his Pistols
  • armored vest makes it 5
  • Spider-Sense draws you a card each time the Villain attacks, and Unflappable draws when you take no damage, meaning a perfect defense is 2+ cards (plus the thwarting from Hard to Ignore)
  • If you (and your partner) can defeat Specialized Training, you can get Defense Specialist which increases the above defense and card draw by 1 each (starting with 8 cards? don't mind if I do!)
  • Venom's strong upgrades are complimented by his events, which you'll often get to play because of the strong card draw.
  • Venom has three copies of Run and Gun which can ready him (and all his weapons) on the hero phase, and the card draw of perfect defense makes him more likely to draw it (or afford it)
  • Helicarrier makes it easier to play his events with their kickers, Since you're defending the Villain's attacks, you should have some health to spare.
  • All three of his weapons have the Tech trait, making Spider-Byte a free play each deck pass.
  • Guardian allies Drax, Gamora, and Rocket are high value, and Venom can play them without tricky gimmicks!

Since Tigra is coming out soon, and I'm excited to play her, I wanted to go ahead and make a good companion deck.

I made a similar Minion-control deck with Falcon a few weeks back Mo Minions, No Problems that you could also try if you want to play more preparations and control, but I found I like this Venom variant better.

This looks great, I'll give it a try (but I gotta' add Knowhere lol)!

On the subject of perfect, The Emperor's New Groove may be the perfect Disney movie! I watched it on a loop when my son was young and we laughed SO hard together (Patrick Warburton is perfect as Kronk lol). I hope they don't try a live-action remake of this one!

@SoloMarvelChampion oh man, the live action stuff has been so... lame. I hadn't even considered that they might remake Emperor's New Groove, and I shudder at the... irreverence. It is, indeed, timeless and perfect currently.

As to Knowhere, you could easily drop both copies of Desperate Defense (my least played card) and add that and Starhawk. I think I might do that today, actually. great call.

@Footballcoach I was going to mention Starhawk too (he's one of my all time favorites) but I didn't want to push too far LOL

@SoloMarvelChampionwell the combo of Knowhere and Starhawk is too good to miss, because he recurs himself. At first I was thinking: "Groot's going to stay on the board. I might play 2 other guardian allies in a game, which would make Knowhere break even on value..."

Then I remembered Starhawk and it became clear.

Great variation on the Groot and Hangar Bay tactic...I'd consider maybe using "Come Get Me, Bub!" to draw out a minion, in order to them get the Pinned Down>Groot>Hangar Bay>Shake it Off effect....but if you are playing a minion heavy scenario, then it probably wpuld t matter...great, fun deck!

@Rey Plays Games I agree that the combo needs minions to work, but there's nothing within the deck that wants minions engaged with you. Venom wants minions engaged with Tigra, and wants those minions to be invalid and ineffectual.

There may be something said for minion summoning, still, since Aggression has Target Spotter and can engage/acquire minions that are summoned by other people. In that case, Aggression could offload the minion summoning to other players at the table, and synergize (Leadership player playes Hugin & Munin, readies a bunch, but Aggression player actually gets the minion).

Even so, I don't think I'd pick "Come Get Me, Bub!" for Venom because I think the tough status card gets in the way of his hero ability Symbiotic Bond because of "Deal vs Take" damage. Let me know if I'm wrong there, but I think Tough won't let you "take" damage to gain a wild resource. And Venom wants to defend these attacks, which (if you perfect defend as intended) means you keep the Tough for a while. I'm not saying Tough cards are bad... but there's some anti-synergy there.
