Silk - Sand & Venom
Sandman
The deck as presented was built to fight Sandman:
- Starhawk is great for shoveling sand and being an Indirect Damage sink since it's easy to give him exactly the amount of damage needed to send him back to your hand.
- Spider-UK is also a good ID sink because he has 5 HP and I typically only use him to defend enemies which he can defeat so he doesn't take their damage, meaning he too is good for shoveling sand!
This is a defensive battle because taking any amount of damage from Sandman causes you to resolve the Surging Sands ability, which chews through the encounter deck:
- Jocasta is here to recover Defense events
- Defiance lets you know exactly how strong Sandman's Attack will be
- Desperate Defense lets you hopefully (typically) ready after the Basic defend.
- Angel's Aerie builds up for some decent healing
- Armored Vest gets you to 4 DEF
You can see the game here on Friday May 9th.
Venom
This game is somewhat defensive, although less-so in my opinion because defending mostly just keeps chime counters on the Bell Tower (which is a good thing of course). These are the changes I made for Venom:
- Starhawk's greatest use against Sandman is shoveling Sand, but he doesn't draw me a card when he leaves play, so I replaced him with Spider-Man: Otto Octavius.
- 2X Plasma Pistol are great against Venom because they deal 1 damage (2 if the bell is ringing) which isn't an attack, so they don't give him a facedown boost card. They're also TECH, so Otto can ready them and draw a card!
- I cut all three copies of Defiance but kept Desperate Defense for the potential Ready. With only 3 Defense events I replaced Jocasta with Scarlet Spider.
- Finally, I added two copies of Target Acquired in case either "Now We're Angry!" or Unstable Sentience was a Boost card, giving Venom "surprise" Overkill!
That brings the Venom version of the deck up to 41 cards (2 ally swaps, -3 Defense cards, +2 TECH cards, +2 Target Acquired).
You can see the game here on Saturday May 10th.
I have two favorite cards for Silk, but I'm only going to mention one here because I'm going to make a video about my favorites for her and Shuri.
Eidetic Memory is one of my favorites! I've never been so happy to resolve (and then tuck) Advance! Later, when Shadow of the Past was revealed I was able to swap it for the tucked Advance at a time when threat wasn't a problem!
