The current version of this deck that I am playing is actually cooperative, which has allowed some of the Player Side Schemes to fit into my partners deck. The extra space allows me to run additional resource generating upgrades (Deft Focus, X-Gene, Clarity of Purpose), and the ever fun Symbiote Suit.
This deck is focused on two goals.
- Fill the Victory Display with Side Schemes to turn Mind Scan and Telekinetic Blast into haymakers.
- Reducing deck size to draw into those big haymakers more often.
While no game will go on long enough to make it a reality, including Forced Amnesia, you could be using X-Bunker to search the top 14 cards of your 10 card deck to put something into your hand. That thing could be Telekinetic Blast (3 cost: 14 damage), Mind Scan (2 cost: 17 thwart), or Precognition to keep from hitting the truly devastating cards.
When playing cooperatively, I always start with Build Support as the in play Setup card. This allows my partner and I to each grab Helicarrier right away. If playing solo, I would recommend Call for Backup to fetch Fantomex (and therefore E.V.A.), or Pete Wisdom. Fantomex combines with E.V.A. to be insanely flexible, and Pete Wisdom does so much thwarting, especially after Uncanny X-Force comes down.
Fantomex is an absolute workhorse once you have your board getting built out. E.V.A. provides a lot of flexibility, and is (in my opinion) the real reason to run Fantomex in most decks. That said, I attempt to also get down the support card Uncanny X-Force, which allows him to thwart side schemes for 2 for no damage. Then the upgrade Clarity of Purpose, to allow him to take a damage (which E.V.A.. heals) to generate a wild resource. Both Uncanny X-Force and Clarity of Purpose are great with him, but getting both really improves the already incredible flexibility E.V.A. provides.
If you are flipping to Alter-Ego regularly, you are going to be getting that 6 card hand, then getting extra cards off of Helicarrier, Mission Leader, Moira MacTaggert, Professor, and X-Bunker. That is an 11 card hand in a deck that can technically get down to 11 cards total.
If you are returning to this writeup, you may notice some changes. Deadpool has been replaced with Marrow Frenemies has been replaced with X-23 Live Dangerously has been replaced with Pete Wisdom Deft Focus, Symbiote Suit, Team-Building Exercise, and X-Gene have been dropped from the posted list.
I found myself trying to keep Deadpool alive so I wouldn't get acceleration tokens. No Deadpool, means no need for Frenemies. I prefer Marrow and X-23 as expendable allies that I can feel comfortable blocking with, and they each help deal with minions nicely.
I'm not enough of a gambler to get any real use out of Live Dangerously. It was exclusivly being used as a resource. The only time it was ever played was when I would complete it in the same turn. At that point it is just in the deck for the sake of "run every side scheme" meme.
I still run Deft Focus, Symbiote Suit, Team-Building Exercise, and X-Gene in my personal version. I feel that this deck does a good enough job thinning itself down that it is worth pushing past the 40 card minimum to get resource generators. I know many folks want decks as close to 40 cards as possible, so I pulled them out of the "official" build.
