Nightcrawler is hands down the best Protection Deck with the new Fear No Evil Cards

Full Build:

• Kurt's Cutlasses +1 Def +1 Retailiate
• Armored Vest, Defensive Conditioning, Innate Reflexes = +3 Def
• Ronin = + 1 Def and +1 Retailiate
• Prehensile Tail & Excelsior

With these upgrades when you play Bamf! you'll have +8 Defense which should withstand any attack with 2 Retaliate and another 2 Damage for Excelsior.

You can also play The Best Offense... which would give you +9 DEF and will allow you to use your DEF stat for Thwart and/or Attack that turn. Combine that with In Harm's Way and you'll do 9 Thwart and 9 Damage per turn.

Other Upgrades and Supports

• Avengers Mansion & Helicarrier are staples
• X-Mansion, The X-Jet are staples and are great for multiplayer
• Moira MacTaggert combined with 'Port Away will allow you to draw a card
• Unflappable - will allow you to draw a card each turn
• Stand Alone - will allow you to ready Nightcrawler if you don't have Bamf! attached to enemy
• The Night Nurse I like for multiplayer

COMBOS

• Use Mutant Education to recycle Nightcrawler Identity cards if needed which also will allow you to draw a card with X-Mansion to get to In Harm's Way and The Best Offense... quicker.
• Use The X-Jet to pay for Excelsior which provides 2 DMG each villain phase
• If you ever need to recover Use 'Port Away to switch to Alter-Ego then recover and use Kurt's Chapel and draw a card. You can then use Kurt Wagners ability to search deck for Bamf! if needed, then flip back to Nightcrawler and draw another card with Moira MacTaggert. Combo this will Mutant Education above.
• Deft Focus can be used to pay for Nightcrawler Superpowers.

DURING VILLAIN PHASE

• Bamf! villain attacks Nightcrawler. Defend with +8 fully upgraded. Retaliate 2 with Kurt's Cutlasses and Ronin.
• No DMG taken means Unflappable draw a card
• Then use The X-Jet to pay for Excelsior to deal 2 DMG to villain
• Then use Deft Focus to pay for Tally Ho! to deal 3 more DMG and get Bamf! back into your hand.
• In total you dealt 7 DMG to villain during Villain Phase
