With this deck, we will Taunt and Bait the villain into action and then Return the Favor.
Black Widow has a famously reactive kit--that is to say, her play style often focuses on reacting to what the villain, minions, and the encounter deck do. That is fun, and has a lot of synergy with Protection, leading to a lot of defense decks that focus on controlling the villain phase.
But not this deck. We are on the front foot here, playing cards that have way to bait the villain into doing what we want and playing below the cost curve to do so.
Some of these cards you might expect:
- "Come Get Me, Bub!" is just an insane value card, providing healing and a tough card for the low cost of 0 and a minion; we have Widow's Bite to help deal with the minion, and Change of Fortune and Unflappable to help us profit. This card is so good we did an episode about it: https://youtu.be/SbaP8wisdew
- Taunt is great value, allowing you to to draw three cards for the low cost of 1 and taking an attack; we have Attacrobatics to deal damage back, as well as the tough we gained from "Come Get Me, Bub!". This card is so good we did an episode about it: https://youtu.be/MVkyM-zmGtU
...And other cards you might not expect:
- Bait and Switch thwarts for 4 at a cost of 1 and an attack; we have Attacrobatics and Defensive Stance to negate that attack's danger and deal damage back to the villain
- Return the Favor deals 5 damage for 0 cost, but you have to reveal a treachery; Grappling Hook means this is not an issue
- Leo Fitz can help us dig for Tech cards: Widow's Bite, Synth-Suit, Grappling Hook, and Black Widow's Gauntlet all qualify, as well as Electrostatic Armor
We have some other preparations in here to round out the deck:
- Practiced Plan helps recycle preparations quicker
- Defensive Stance helps provide a little safety from damage
- Espionage draws cards whenever the villain does too (with surge)
- Ready for a Fight to go down to AE, trigger some additional card draw and fetch some preparations with Safe House #29; this card is so good we did an episode on it: https://youtu.be/QRM4wRjc7r4
Finally, the allies:
- Spider-Byte is here because she can be played for free with just Black Widow's own kit cards: Synth-Suit, and two copies of Black Widow's Gauntlet
- Mockingbird is just really solid and can also help when we bait the villain into attacking, or protect the table
- Yellow Jacket is great to dig for preparations and other upgrades we want to find
Very cool. Love to see bait and switch and return the favor. Nice work! It seems like you've married a lot of cool ideas in this deck. Excited to try it!
