Ready for a Fight: Part VII: Ready for a Photo Beam!
Part of my Ready for a Fight series of heroes, which is the best way to reframe old heroes. I've been able to get heroes on the board to play, some I have not touched in literally years.
Using the Ready for a Fightstrategy, you can get Ironheart up to Version 2 and 3 much quicker because you are flipping down to Alter-Ego more often, which also allows you to have a 6 hand size instead of a 4 for Version 1 or 5 for version 2, plus use Ronnie Williams more often without worrying about overwhelming scheming in early game.
You can easily have 15 cards on the board. Once you get your defense cards out, you will be setting up additional card draw with Change of Fortune. Having Nova to hit the weak minion before they attack to get your additional 2 card draw.
Here are the key cards.
- Tony Stark A.I.top get your card draw.
-Ronnie Williams because you are going to Alter-Ego more often, you are leveling up (higher priority) or healing.
- Photon Blasters and
- Propulsion Jets Besides, both giving you 2 HP each, you can use these even when you are confused or stunned. I always tried to get Propulsion Jets firsts since in Solo, you really need to deal with threat and you can wait to set up your board before you are attacking.
Once you have those 4 cards set up, any other order is fine. You do want to get your Ready for a Fight cards out, but you can do a turn in Hero mode if you're not able to get the physical resource and end up in hero mode.
- Enhanced Physique is there so you can always trigger Ready for a Fight; alternatively;
- Practiced Plan to bring it into your hand.
- Pinpoint, once you get it can keep reshuffling Ready for a Fight in your hand, so this can be a priority.
Spider-Byte, As you build your hero kit, you will get at least 2 techs out so you can play Spider-Byte for 1 resource or free if you also have out Armored Vest.
As you progress, both
- Desperate Defense and
- "Stop Hitting Yourself" will become more and more valuable in combination of the other defense cards.
Here are the other cards and what they do.
Supports:
- Dr. Sinclair, using this in combination with Ingenuity (with its mental resource), sets up turn as a battery when you go down to Alter-Ego. This alleviates having to exhaust to recover, or you can double heal by doing both.
Upgrades:
-
Armored Vest, ensuring you don't take any damage to trigger Electrostatic Armor, Unflappable and Dauntless.
-
Change of Fortune Key component of this protection deck, setting up to get the largest card draw.
-
Dauntless, once you are fully set-up you should be able to (with Endurance to be at full health when you hero up to Giant form.
-
Electrostatic Armor retaliate when you defend.
-
Practiced Plan keep your Ready for a Fight back in your hand.
-
Unflappable since Ironheart's defense is strong, this is a great card to have for card draw, especially in combo with Change of Fortune
Allies:
-
Brawn, good to use in alter-ego early game to get the thwart and mental resource to help level up more quickly.
-
Nova really sets up card with Change of Fortune. Would wait til COF is on the board due to the cost of Nova.
-
Pinpoint as described above, to use to recycle Ready for a Fight.
-
Spider-Byte. Such a great new card with any tech heroes. These should always be auto-included because they are so cheap once board is set up.
Ironheart cards
-
Fly Over because you are limiting threat, this was an easy way to get rid of side schemes and get progress counters more quickly.
-
New and Improved, expensive so near end game you will already have more to do with the other attacks. Also you have Perseverance for your toughs.
-
Photon Beam, just keep using this.
-
Sector Scan you will probably want to use as a resource.
Good luck and have fun!!!

Other decks in this series
(Some will be updated soon to version 2.0):
Ready for a Fight: Part I: Ready for A One-Two Punch! https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/50416/ready-for-a-one-two-punch-2.0 Allowing you to be in Alter-Ego and get 10 cards to start your hero turn.
Ready for a Fight: Part II: Ready for a Dance of Death! https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/50440/rfaf-ready-for-a-preparation-1.0 You will have total control on the board and all your cards played.
Ready for a Fight: Part III: Ready for a Repulsor Blast! https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/50485/rfaf-ready-for-a-repulsor-blast-1.0 A nice way to still get your Alter-Ego abilities even late game.
Ready for a Fight: Part IV: Ready for a Hulk Smash! https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/50535/rfaf-ready-for-a-hulk-smash-1.0 Play hulk with RFAF and you actually keep your cards, have a larger hand size and not worry about scheming, because your Hulk and your thwarting sucks.
Ready for a Fight: Part V: Ready for a Giant Stomp! https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/50658/rfaf-ready-for-a-giant-stomp-1.0 If you like the Wasp version, you will love Giant-Man, especially because the Ready for a Fight strategy gives you way more cards in alter-ego than his 4 limited hand size.
Ready for a Fight: Part VI: Ready for a Wasp Sting! https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/50763/rfaf-part-vi-ready-for-a-wasp-sting-1.0 A very different feel than the other RFAF decks as you have less physical resources, but uses RFAF strategy as often as you can. A way to get Wasp on the table.

Jun 08, 2025Thanks Lennalf. He worked really well under RFAF. He and Iron Man. (latest version after published marvelcdb.com) This really helps speed run your upgrades. |
I love this concept. Ironheart can never have too many progress counters. I also appreciate the natural synergy between RFAF and Perseverance. Thanks for sharing!
