S.H.I.E.L.D has recruited Thor along with some other honorary members to shore up his opportunities.
Thor has typically struggled with threat management and resources, which is very strange considering he's Asgardian Royalty but anyway. S.H.I.E.L.D has aligned with him needing his raw power and will provide resources to cover his weaknesses.
Setup:
S.H.I.E.L.D is setting up their command outpost and they have a few key pieces of equipment that will help Thor get rolling.
-Asgard which gives Thor +1 hand size bringing him to 5 in hero and 6 in AE.
-God of Thunder which provides an resource and is the most important piece of setup, more on that later.
-Helicarrier which lets you reduce the cost of the next card played by 1 and is also a S.H.I.E.L.D support which provides a target for some of our allies.
-Deft Focus which reduces the cost of the next superpower card played by 1. Really nice to play Hammer Throw at a reduced cost.
-Thor's Helmet which gives him +5 health allowing for more durability.
-The Triskelion which allows us to have an extra ally.
All of these with the exception of Deft can be found through either Build Support or Superpower Training. You can also utilize Defender of the Nine Realms to clear one of those as well as bringing out a minion for Thor to draw 2 cards from as well.
Slingshot Engaged:
The key to this deck maintaining consistency is the new ally Slingshot who can be put into play by spending an resource. IF she is still in play at the end of the phase, she bounces back to your hand. Remember the reference to God of Thunder being important? Well this can pay for Slingshot every single turn giving Thor a much needed 2 thwart ally consistently.
Maximize her usefulness on a turn to turn basis by showing off your Leadership Skill which gives +1 to an ally's thwart/attack as well using Command Team for an extra ready. Get up to 6 thwart/damage in 1 turn from her and then bring her back to do it again next turn!
S.H.I.E.L.D. Squares Up:
One new card that has revitalized Thor in leadership is Squared Off and S.H.I.E.L.D will square up with anyone, it's a match made in heaven.
The agents are itching to get into the fight so square off with minions and reap the benefits.
With Hawkeye out he can snipe minions as they enter dealing 2 damage to them allowing for easier clears of beefy minions.
Play Nick Fury with squared off and draw 5 cards plus have a blocker for next turn.
Play White Tiger with squared off and draw up to 5 cards in expert stage 3.
Play Maria Hill with squared off and draw 3 cards.
Play Falcon with squared off and draw 2 from the minion as well as remove threat for any treacheries seen when he enters play.
Play Victoria Hand with squared off and you can ready a S.H.I.E.L.D support which can be either Helicarrier or Command Team.
Play Lady Sif and draw 2 as well as ready Thor.
Agent 13 doesn't provide any benefits from hitting the table but she does allow you to ready a S.H.I.E.L.D support when she activates letting you get an extra use of helicarrier or Command Team.
Deck Strategy:
The overall deck strategy is simple, Thor has magic hammer and S.H.I.E.L.D wants him to swing it as much as possible while not worrying about pesky schemes. That's for their dedicated agents. S.H.I.E.L.D did not overthink on this one and sometimes the best plans are the least complicated.
Use Thor's Limitless Stamina to get extra readies allowing him to pile up the damage with Mjolnir and Hammer Throw.
It's really nice to play Hammer throw which sends Mjolnir back to your hand and then use Agent 13 to ready the helicarrier and get it right back in play.
With all the resource generation i've been able to play an ally as well as 2 hammer throws in a turn to close out a game with resources/cards still left over.
Other Cards Considered:
Clarity of Purpose was nice but it went unused alot due to all of the other resource gen.
Quincarrier is great to hit those specific requirements but i went with helicarrier in its place since we have allies who can ready it.
Godlike Stamina was in here for heals but dropped it due to being able to flip down regularly thanks to our threat management.
Face the Past seems like an obvious one and i do love it for the card draw buuuuuut i kept running into Loki hitting a treachery and healing. The deck operated more smoothly without it.
This is one of the rare times that i've played Thor and never had to worry about paying for things. The deck leans into what Thor likes, shores up his weaknesses and is a blast to play.
I would love to hear any feedback or experiences with the deck!
Love this idea! I just thought of a Thor Slingshot deck today and searched to see if anyone had done it. You did! Nice work.
