When I saw Mutant Mayhem I knew there would be a ton of decks to abuse things like Utopia and The X-Men trait. Mutant mayhem costs 3 resources but you can return 1 xforce and 1 xmen ally to your hand and immediately replay them.I wanted to do something different and Venom has access to "Welcome Aboard" which makes the next ally you play 2 resources cheaper. This helps us get our expensive allies out quickly so we can start the combos with Mutant Mayhem. The whole idea of this deck is to play allies again and again and again...
Ways to play allies:
Rapid Response for allies who are defeated which includes consequential damage
Supports/Upgrades
Team Training to give our allies an extra hit point
Command Team to get an extra activation which is great if you have Mutant Mayhem in hand
Leadership Skill which gives an extra damage or thwart when an ally activates
The main targets for Mutant Mayhem are Beast and Deathlok. Beast grabs a resource card and deathlok can attach an upgrade that costs 1 or less from your discard to him. The only one we're running is Clarity of Purpose which can generate another resource for dealing 1 damage to the attached character.
The other top targets to recur are Cable and X-23 simply for their great stats, especially when we have leadership skill out.
The rest of the allies:
Colossus who can provide a tough and also attacks for 3
Gentle who also provides 3 Attack.
Caliban is also great to mill the deck and grab another ally from the deck. It's also nice to play him mid-game to reset the deck when all the allies are in discard
How the deck plays:
I use Venom mainly as a defender, with his 2 pistols out he can defend for 4 each turn. Not only that he has access to Grasping Tendrils to negate an enemy attack plus stun if we pay using fist resources. I usually look to get a Venom's Pistol on him turn 1 and either a Support or an ally out.
Once we have allies out we don't want to chump with them as they will be the main source of damage/thwart for us. The idea is to get an X-force and an X-Men ally out, get them down to 1 hit point and use Mutant Mayhem to replay them. Command team can accelerate this with extra activations. If we don't have MM, rapid response can also bring back an ally.
An actual turn i had was I put Rapid response on Beast, grabbed a double resource after he went away from consequential. Played mutant mayhem to bring back deathlok, beast and replay them then put clarity on Deathlok from discard. grab another double from beast. Play x-23 with the double and clarity.
Some other nice little combos are: Play Pixie for free with Welcome Aboard and grab an X-men ally from discard. Even a 4 cost ally would be able to be played in hero form with the 3 remaining cards in your hand and Venom's sig ability.
Clarity on Deathlok can help pay for MM which is great value since you can then put him back out and put Clarity back on him.
If you don't have an ally to play with doubles grabbed from putting Beast into play, Run and Gun is another great one to play getting an extra activation from Venom.
