Beauty and the Beast

This is just a slight variation of GrootForPresident's "Captain Marvel and Beast have a Clarity of Purpose" deck.

How our decks are the same:

We had a very similar deck, which abuses Beast with Make the Call and Rapid Response to get extra uses of Energy Absorption:

  • Use Energy Absorption and any other card (or Clarity of Purpose) to pay for Beast...
  • Get Energy Absorption back and use it again to:
  • Then get a Rapid Response on the board and get the Energy Absorption back again when Beast is defeated and comes back into play.

How our decks differ:

  • My deck originally had Team-Building Exercise and theirs uses Command Team, which is the far better option IMO (to be honest I didn't read Team-Building Exercise fully and didn't realize it was a Hero action, so I can't use it in Alter-Ego to help pay for her SHIELD cards, which GrootforPresident pointed out to me).
  • I run Teamwork instead of Lead from the Front mainly for the 0-cost and to keep my 2HP allies around a bit longer, but Lead from the Front can make for huge turns!
  • I use Adam Warlock instead of White Tiger, who does a LOT of work and isn't as chaotic as I assumed when I first read him:
    • Play out anything you don't want to lose to the discard and "setup" the resource you'll be discarding. Command Team is great here here: if you have two resources and either is fine (and the the timing of which happens first doesn't matter) you can do both.
    • This deck draws just enough cards that you frequently have one of two left over that you might just discard for a fresh draw, and Adam lets you use them effectively.
    • Anything discarded with his Response is helpful, but the ability helps keep Captain Marvel alive!

I really do like Adam Warlock over White Tiger, good call. But I'm sticking with my Lead from the Front LOL.

What are your thoughts on ally Black Panther? Expensive, but good?

@GrootForPresident Black Panther is easier to use in Captain Marvel because of Energy Absorption, but I don't think he's worth the cost for the events I'm running. Maybe I'd pull Teamwork and get a "free" activation with him before using him to block minions? If I was using something like Go All Out or Push Ahead he'd be more intriguing. I rarely play Cosmic Flight OR Captain Marvel's Helmet, but would be more inclined to get both on the table at the same time if I was using a Go All Out or Push Ahead strat (I'll test that).

I think if I was going to add another 4-cost ally it would be Nick Fury rather than Black Panther (because of the card draw and he synergizes better with Rapid Response), making room for him by cutting a Strength In Numbers. Traditionally with Nick you draw three cards, attack or thwart with him once, (twice with Command Team), then let him block since he's going away anyway. If you have Rapid Response you can draw three more cards when he dies, but he still goes away. But you can get 12 damage out of him with a Command Team and Rapid Response too, or a combination of cards and damage (I'll test that too).

If I added Nick I might also replace Teamwork with Go Down Swinging because the deck will now have two 4-cost allies and three 3-cost allies. You could get 10 total damage out of Nick with Go Down Swinging (12 with Command Team).

Another Interesting add here could be Captain America. With any Avenger ally in play he's only going to cost 4 (even less with with more Avengers), but Go Down Swinging (after you've used him up of course) will hit for 6.
