Okay, this deck was built with a crazy idea in mind…find a way to give Nova wild resources and repeatedly draw his hero events.
Since eight of his ten events provide an additional benefit when using wilds to pay for them, I went on the hunt for wild resources. Which is when I discovered that those cards don’t exist. Okay, that’s an overstatement. They exist, but only just. Each aspect has exactly two cards that produce wilds, and they are -surprise!- resource cards. Except for Leadership, where the Iron Man ally inexplicably generates a wild.
Obviously, the idea was a bust.
But when I glanced at the basic aspect cards, I suddenly saw a lot of wilds peeking over the fence. As I explored I saw that many of them were joint hero event cards or allies with a trait requirement, so all of these were out.
But there were just enough wilds floating around in Basic to give me an interesting idea; could Nova just spam his signature events in the late game? It turns out…sort of?
Which brings us to Basic B**ch Nova.
It’s absurdly simple to describe the plan of this deck: get every upgrade and support card onto the table as soon as possible to clear the way for event spamming.
It turned out that there were a couple interesting wrinkles you can take advantage of.
Champions Mobile Bunker becomes very useful once this engine gets moving. With 11 events, 7 resource cards and 7 allies, you will definitely have moments where you have mostly resources in hand, and the Bunker helps solve that.
Go For CHampions! is a great way to cruise through a tough late game round. Since there are several Champion allies in the deck, you can end up executing or blocking several attacks without consequence if you get backed into a corner.
Resourcefulis a weird card that I have literally never had a reason to play. But with this deck, it functions as a double resource for most of Nova’s events, and also allows you to thin your deck. It’s up to you if you want to bank it for a later large turn or burn it immediately.
Lockjawbecomes legitimately useful! On a round where you have excess resources in hand, you can dump them into resurrecting nobody’s favorite teleporting pug monstrosity! Seriously though, once you’re dealing largely with resource and event cards, you may find yourself bringing this guy back repeatedly for his two ATK and THW. And since five of the resource cards in this deck count as double resources (the three standard, plus Power In All Of Us when used for a basic card) he won’t be difficult to play.
In fact the boon of resources for basic cards is precisely why it’s not a problem having several high-cost allies. All of the basic resources count as double, and the Connection to the World Mind just sits there until it’s needed. If I’m being honest though, I think Venomis seriously undercosted for his value. Truly a first for a basic ally.
Helicarrierand Avengers Mansion assist in getting permanents onto the table in the early game, but in the late game help make sure allies are much easier to play. And if you find yourself with excess resources, you can always feed one to Plan B.
Symbiote Suit is there if you want it, or you can use it to play events.
Would this deck benefit from having an aspect? Probably. The current weakness is that Nova’s basic actions accomplish very little without the Symbiote Suit. Most of his effectiveness is in the events. The only downside to introducing an aspect is that it would make The Power in All of Us less effective, which is a problem in the late game since it comes in handy for cycling allies back into play.
But given the general feel of this deck, a Leadership aspect would mostly enhance what it is already doing. Make the Call allows you to use all those late-game resources to dump the best allies in any discard into play, the The Triskelionthins the deck and allows one more ally to be fielded and Team Training allows Lockjaw to attack or thwart three times (or chump block as a last act) which significantly increases his appeal.
