I’ve always loved the feeling of taking zero damage from the villain, and this deck is built entirely around that dream! Gambit took a little inspiration from Lord of the Rings for this one. Huge shoutout to DoubleJefferdy for helping me think through this deck. This is my first published deck that I’ve put real thought into crafting, and I’ve had a blast running it true solo.
The Core Strategy
The main goal is to build out a perfect defense engine that deals 4 passive damage every villain phase without you taking a scratch:
- Defend (base 3 DEF + Armored Vest+ Defensive Conditioning = 5 DEF)
- Deal 1 damage from Gambit's Staff
- Ready with Gambit's Guild Armor
- Deal 1 damage from Electrostatic Armor
- Spend an from The X-Jet to trigger Excelsior for another 2 damage Once that engine is fully operational, you can play Taunt during the player phase to force another attack and deal that 4 damage all over again—before finally closing out the game with "Stop Hitting Yourself".
The Game Loop
Since you’ll be flipping back and forth to keep threat in check and cycle your engine, here is how a typical round plays out:
- Setup: Land a Confuse status on the villain or set up Ready for a Fight. Use allies to thwart so The Thieves Guild can fire and draw you a card.
- Alter-Ego Value: Flip to Alter-Ego. Trigger Thief Extraordinaire, The Thieves Guild, and X-Mansion for healing. Shuffle whatever key cards you need back into your deck with Mutant Education while getting draw value off X-Mansion.
- Flip & Defend: Trigger Ready for a Fight to flip back to Hero form and get ready to defend for 5.
- Punish: Execute your 4-damage defense reaction loop on the villain's turn.
Key Tech & Card Choices
- Rogue: Dropping her for free once you stack up enough charge counters feels amazing every single time.
- Beauty and the Thief: Great event to have in hand when you need to clear the board at just the right moment.
Final Thoughts & Notes
- Matchups: The main thing this deck can struggle with is medium-sized minions that sit just out of ping range, but overall it’s smooth and extremely fun to pilot.
- Multiplayer: Tested mostly in True Solo, but it should perform well in multiplayer with minor tweaks. You could add Build Support to pull The X-Jet earlier, though I haven't felt strictly pressed for it in solo testing.
Hope you enjoy piloting it as much as I did! I’m still learning the ins and outs of deckbuilding, so constructive feedback and suggestions are always welcome in the comments.
