Domino Takes Cover in the Recycling Bin

"Domino Takes Cover in the Recycling Bin" is a clever (IMO lol) way of saying "stay in alter-ego and use her alter-ego ability to the fullest, and come out guns blazing (literally). Then take cover again and recycle the top card of your discard pile (like Professor X, Monica Chang, Assess the Situation, etc.)

While I've made good use of her alter-ego ability in the past, this is the first time I've thought about going all-in on it! The first thing you must do when recycling is recycle [the card I'm talking about] to your hand, because if you play anything else [it] gets buried by the cards you spent to play those other cards.

Some recycling examples:

  • Play Professor X for the confuse and remove some threat. He's going to be the top card of your discard pile because he's discarded at the end of the round, so nothing should go in on top of him. Recycle him to your hand and repeat.
  • Play Monica Chang (which triggers Sky-Destroyer) and get a free Surveillance Team. Use her once and next turn use her for the last time and she gets discarded. Recycle and repeat.
  • Play Assess the Situation (while in alter-ego) to get to a hand size of 7. Recycle it and play it again to get to a hand size of 8.
  • If you can't get the confuse, recycling Agent Coulson (which triggers Sky-Destroyer) gets Counterintelligence into your hand. But also, if you've just triggered Counterintelligence it's the top card of your discard pile, so you can just recycle that!

Pip the Pug is really good with this strategy because you can use a Domino card for the alter-ego swap, then put it back on top of your deck (to draw) with Pip.

Shadow of the Past isn't awful because you're spending most of your time in alter-ego, making it easy to remove Superpower Feedback. Same goes for Memories of Armageddon.

As mentioned above Sky-Destroyer gets several pings pretty easily in this deck because you can recycle your SHIELD cards to hand.

Deck Testing

  • Expert Rhino: 3-0
  • Expert Klaw: 1-2
    • Those losses were ROUGH. I was swarmed in both losses.
  • Standard Black Widow: 4-0
  • Expert Black Widow: 1-3
    • I just couldn't get built out fast enough in the losses.

One change I've made since posting: I replaced Assess the Situation with Foiled!

Such a fun recusion idea! The confuse-lock is strong here. I think I might like to see how it works with Upside the Head. Since confuse comes easy, this could be an easy flip up, stun, and flip back down next turn strategy.

Unless you were careful, this would make the recycle bin less reliable, tho.

@Footballcoach I was using Upside in the first version of the deck but swapped them out for Assess the Situation, which I've also swapped out for Foiled. I meant to talk about Mulligans n the writeup but forgot to. I've been doing a hard Mulligan for Professor X to keep the villain confused long enough to get built out to flip up for damage.

@SoloMarvelChampionthanks for explaining! If you tried it and found this way more reliable, I probably don't need to try it myself. Still a really cool idea, and you've stirred my imagination.

@Footballcoach I just realized that I didn't say why I cut Upside the Head. As you alluded to, there were times when I just didn't want to play it because I didn't want to cover the card on the top of the discard pile. An example of this is Pip the Pug. If the good boy gets discarded (via Domino's Pistol, Probability Field, or one of her events) I need him to stay on top so I can recycle him when I go down, otherwise I have to wait to cycle the deck before I see him again. The reason I ended up going with Foiled! is because I can use it on a turn, then recycle it on the next turn to use it again (assuming I can't get the villain confused).

Of course, I could just recycle Upside the Head, but that forces a constant flip and I'd rather stay down a few turns before popping back up.
