Always Be Scooping

silk

Silk has a ton of fun hero cards, and provides a whole new layer of synergies with Web-Warrior cards. You can have almost infinite Web-Warrior recursion with Spider-Man 2099, and rack up loads of damage with Swinging Silk Kicks and Spider Claws.

This deck doesn't use any of that.

At CoH I saw a bunch of awesome "never flip up" decks, where the player stays as much as possible in Alter Ego form. I haven't seen anyone try that with Silk yet, so I decided to have some fun and try it out.

Deck building self limitations

  • Don't include any cards that require being in hero form
  • No Web-Warrior traited cards

Theme

Cindy Moon is undergoing a crisis of identity, and on the advice of her doctor (the same one Peter Parker goes to in Spider-Man 2), she's decided to hang up her organic webbing suit and focus on her investigative journalism work.

Strategy

This centers around drawing lots of cards via Cindy Moon's Alter Ego ability. Mulligan hard for Albert Moon. Once he's out, you can get a free 2 card draw each turn. J. Jonah Jameson can get you Get the Scoop. This can be used to tuck a card if Albert isn't out yet. It's also an easy target for Followed.

The Preparation cards can work together nicely. The ideal combo is using Informant to make a minion's scheme work for you, then discard them with Sting Operation, after which you can stash them in The Raft to remove even more threat.

Investigative Journalism is very important if you're planning to stay in Alter Ego. However, I couldn't include the Web-Warrior Peter Parker due to my self-limitation of no Web-Warrior cards. Enter Spider-Man. He's expensive, but with 8 cards we pretty much always have the economy to play him.

Playtesting

I gotta be honest, this deck isn't super effective, but it is fun. The one scenario it did great against was Expert Rhino. I was able to easily handle the threat added each turn while slowly chipping away at Rhino's HP with allies and Followed. Ronan was another matter.

Conclusion

Maybe the lesson here is, Silk is much better when she can use her Hero form. Regardless, I had fun with this challenge, and I definitely came away with more appreciation for her Alter-Ego abilities!

You said it wasn't super effective, but you beat expert Rhino at least. Ronan is a big step up, maybe it would fair well against more average villains? There might be something pretty good here, it might just need a few adjustments. I like the AE theme and attempt at making use of the team up!

Super excited to see you publishing more decks! Can’t wait to play with it. It’s always fun to have personal restrictions and see what comes out of it!

Agree with my compatriot andyr.

Is there a rationale for preferring Surveillance Team over Beat Cop?

For just one more cost, they never run out of charges, possibly staying on the table all game.

Plus they accumulate threat tokens and convert them into damage. This can either wrap up a scenario by finishing off the villain, or save your bacon from a tough minion…

@HeroicSkeleton Thanks! Yeah I just meant this probably isn’t the “best” way to play Silk, but a fun spin on it. It was cool to see it take down Rhino without ever flipping up, he kept collecting nasty attachments that he couldn’t use haha.

@andyr @KingOfRohan thank you!

@T-Challah thanks for the feedback! I like Surveillance Team mainly because Monica Chang can summon them and they’re S.H.I.E.L.D. traited so they can be triggered by Homeland Intervention
