"I Am Not Groot"

In this deck, Groot goes undercover, putting on his best Disguise while he tills his Fertile Ground. While Groot is in alter-ego building up his growth counters, Beat Cops and allies handle the main scheme. Once Groot is big and strong, flip up deal 10 damage with "I. AM. GROOT!" or thwart for 10 with "I am Groot".

I tested this deck against expert Thanos in solo and won with no difficulties. It's also very strong in multiplayer. The extra freedom to stay in alter ego to build growth counters makes your 10 thwart "I am Groot"s be even more consistent.

Strategy Tips

Stay in alter ego and use Disguise to remove threat from the main scheme. That in combination with your allies and Beat Cops are enough to buy time for you to build growth counters. If you get a minion Informant can be very powerful. Once you're set up and you have your army of Beat Cops on the table, you're ready to start dishing out the damage. Waylay and Venom are great at dealing damage at this point, and you can finish Generation X to search a glorious "I. AM. GROOT!" for the finishing blow.

Hi! As using Disguise as your main strategy, have you considered adding another (or two) copy of it?

I love Groot, good stuff to build him in AE. I haven't done much with that. My usual style is to flip regularly to build/use the counters. I'm going to have to try this out

I love the theme here and bonus points for using so many Beat Cops! I love that card. I've got some ideas growing about how to tweak it for multiplayer (3-4p), but what would you change (if anything) for higher player counts?

@nitrinho I did consider it, but ultimately decided against it. I wouldn't say it is the 'main' strategy, but it was the inspiration for the deck. Under Surveillance, Beat Cop, Counterintelligence and the other cards are all just as important for making the strategy work as Disguise is. Disguise is my favorite card in the deck because it's functional here and really fun, but it doesn't outweigh the importance of the other cards. In multiplayer I think it makes a lot of sense to go to 2-3 copies because you can hand it to other players. Even in solo though, it's not bad to go to 2 copies, it's just that in the first draft of the deck, even though I won, I had a lot of dead hands so I wanted to cut down. The deck used to have 3 copies of Meditation along with 2 The Power of Justice, and it made the late game feel awkward.

@Castlefrank47 I didn't enjoy Groot the first time I played him, but that was a long time ago, so I wanted to return and make a deck that I enjoyed. Flipping on him makes a lot of sense. I hope you enjoy this deck!

@D.M.Tip I also really like Beat Cop. I feel like it goes will with Groot since this is inherently a slow paced strategy where you're building up the growth counters. They get a lot of value over time. This deck does work for multiplayer well, but I agree that you can make it a bit better. In multiplayer I would probably go to 2-3 copies of Disguise to increase that consistency a bit. Also, "I. AM. GROOT!" is more than enough damage to expect out of the Justice player in a 3-4 player game, so in combination with it being less likely that the main scheme will go all the way to 0 threat, I would probably cut Waylay in favor for some extra thwarting. Lay the Trap could also be pretty good. It turns both of your I Am Groot cards into big damage blasts lol. Going down to 1 copy of Under Surveillance would make sense as well because there's less pressure to get it on the main scheme early. I'm sure there are a lot of other things you could do as well.

I didn't realize you could grow in AE. This changes a lot of things. Love this setup. Might try a shield centric version too.

^ No edit... use Fruition, not growth. Hasty phone type. Still. Great way to stay useful hidden in AE.

@Dayspring yup! let me know how it goes :)

No Overwatch for "I am Groot"? Nuking 20 threat is such a good feeling

@Miasmatic I built this deck primarily for solo. That combo you're talking about is very strong and fun. Swapping Waylay for Overwatch in multiplayer would be a good idea.
