STORY:

Peter Parker, or Spider-Man has hid from the city he swore to protect. The Symbiote Suit has fully consumed him. He's lashed out on Aunt May, beaten criminals to a pulp, and ignored a burning building near central park for a personal vendetta he had for Vulture.

S.H.I.E.L.D. is picking up the slack after his disappearance. Agent Coulson has established a Command Center and has the city Under Surveillance, working to halt the surge in crime with the local police force. The city needs their hero... they need Spider-Man. Peter must make a choice: continue living in isolation or redeem himself and tear away the Symbiote Suit once and for all. We're all counting on him.

SET-UP:

-1. Start with Symbiote Suit, Agent Coulson, Command Center, & Under Surveillance in play.

-2. Symbiote Suit gains the text:

"Enters play with 3 Symbiote Counters. You cannot change from alter-ego to hero form while Symbiote Suit is in play. This card can only be removed from play by removing Symbiote counters.

Alter-Ego Action: Exhaust Peter Parker and choose one of the following --> Remove 1 Symbiote Counter:

  • Take 7 Damage
  • Discard 7 cards
  • Add 2/Player Threat to the Main Scheme

If there are no Symbiote counters, discard this card."

-3. Spider-Man gains the text:

"Forced Interrupt: Stun & Confuse the villain and each minion in your play area and remove 2 threat/player from the main scheme (ignores the crisis icon - Once Per Game)"

CONCLUSION:

Can our hero rise from the ashes and take back the city, or will he fall to the temptations of the Symbiote Suit?

Here is some background behind the gameplay changes:

  • I chose 7 damage because you'll have 20 health as Peter Parker with the suit. Thematically, I want to encourage the player to find and play Aunt May to heal damage. As the story goes, a hero is defined by the people their surrounded by.
  • I chose 7 cards because your hand-size will be 7 with the suit in alter-ego form. I don't want the player playing cards down to 1 and cheesing a "discard your hand" keyword. There needs to be difficult choices.
  • I had a few ideas for Spider-Man's Forced Interrupt, but I like the thematics of our hero returning from the grave and "stunning" the bad guys on arrival.

PLEASE let me know your thoughts. I embrace feedback, improvements, and new ideas. I still love playing this game in it's true form, but it's fun to experiment too! If you play this, let me know your experience. Was it fun? Unbalanced? I look forward to hearing from you guys!
