I've never really got into playing protection but i figure Captain Marvel would be the most fun to play. The Captain is an absolute drawing machine with her 2 innate abilities, Alpha Flight Station and Avengers Mansion your hand will always be full. A stat line of 2 thwart and 2 attack she can handle most things, but getting a ready after a defense is key.
Desperate Defense and Indomitable keep the Captain ready for every phase and can be used to pump energy channel when not needed.

Card choices were based around trying to maximize the Energy icons to get Energy Channel blasting off when you're all setup.

The ideal setup is get out a Cosmic Flight to get Aerial and Captain Marvel's Helmet to pump up 2 additional defense. With aerial Crisis Interdiction removes an additional 2 threat and Ever Vigilant adds a ready and remove 2 threat to your toolbox. The next setup pieces would be Electrostatic Armor and Armored Vest

With your defences in place you can then work on controlling the threat with Captain Marvel's built in 2 thwart, Crisis Interdiction and Ever Vigilant, all the while dumping in extra energy into Energy Channel.

Cost efficiency cards include Quincarrier and Nerves of Steel. 8 cards hit on Nerves and with 16 upgrades this should be getting used frequently in the end game. The 8 events are 3 x Desperate Defense, 2x Preemptive Strike, 3x Never Back Down

Opening hand, you need to dig deep and mulligan for Cosmic Flight and hopefully a resource card. You can pitch 6 to get another 6 and the draw 1 for the AE ability increases your chances.
