Black Widow – The Perfect Operation

Natasha Romanoff doesn't improvise. She prepares.

Every contingency has a countermeasure. Every enemy has a weakness. And when the operation calls for something more direct, she knows exactly who to call.

Preparation Is Everything

The foundation of this deck is Black Widow's powerful Preparation engine.

With Black Widow's Gauntlet ×2 and Helicarrier, Natasha can dramatically reduce the cost of setting up her arsenal.

In Alter-Ego, Mission Prep rewards playing Preparations with additional card draw, allowing her to build her board without sacrificing too much momentum.

Once her equipment is established, Black Widow becomes exceptionally efficient at responding to the villain's actions.

Grappling Hook, Attacrobatics, Spycraft, Widow's Bite, and Entrapment give Natasha answers to a wide variety of threats.

And every time she resolves a Preparation ability, Widowmaker can turn that response into another point of damage.

The objective is simple: prepare the battlefield before the villain even knows there's a fight.

Dynamic Duo – Call in the Winter Soldier

This is where the operation becomes dangerous.

Dynamic Duo ×2 allows Natasha to search her deck and discard pile for both Winter Soldier and Winter, Widow, Soldier, Spy.

Normally, Winter Soldier costs 4 resources.

But he costs 1 less for every Preparation you control.

With three Preparations in play, Bucky costs only 1. With four, he enters play for free!

And if you're one resource short, Helicarrier can help cover the difference.

That's what makes this combination so effective: the deck already wants to build a large collection of Preparations.

You're not creating a separate engine just to play Winter Soldier. You're rewarding Black Widow for doing what she does best.

Two Agents. One Devastating Operation.

Once Winter Soldier is in play, Winter, Widow, Soldier, Spy becomes available.

For 2 resources, this Team-Up delivers:

  • 4 damage to an enemy.
  • A Preparation upgrade from your discard pile directly into play.

That second effect is especially valuable.

Bring back a discarded Grappling Hook to prepare for another dangerous treachery, or recover another Preparation that fits the current situation.

The Team-Up doesn't simply deal damage. It rebuilds Natasha's defensive network while keeping pressure on the enemy.

And with Dynamic Duo, you can recover the Team-Up from the discard pile for another operation later.

The Winter Soldier Never Stays Down

Here's one of the deck's most satisfying combinations.

Imagine Winter Soldier is already in play with only 1 hit point remaining.

He attacks or thwarts for 2, takes consequential damage, and is defeated.

Now play Dynamic Duo.

Search your discard pile for Winter Soldier and the Team-Up, add them to your hand, and bring Bucky straight back into play.

With four Preparations on the table, he costs nothing.

Winter Soldier can activate again immediately.

That's potentially two attacks or two thwarts from the same ally in one turn, followed by another Team-Up if you can afford it.

The longer the game progresses, the more Preparations Natasha tends to accumulate, making Winter Soldier increasingly economical.

What begins as a powerful ally can become a recurring tactical weapon.

Control the Mission

Despite its improved offensive capabilities, this is still a Justice deck built around battlefield control.

Natasha's Preparations disrupt dangerous encounters, while her Justice cards and allies help manage threat.

Agent Coulson supports the Preparation engine, and Squirrel Girl adds flexible threat removal when the team needs it.

Entrapment provides another way to punish the villain for scheming, while Spycraft gives Natasha a chance to replace an especially troublesome encounter card.

This is not a deck that sacrifices control to gain damage.

It uses the same Preparation engine to accomplish both.

The Perfect Operation

Black Widow doesn't need to overpower the villain.

She builds her resources, anticipates incoming threats, neutralizes dangerous situations, and waits for the right opportunity.

When the battlefield is under control, she brings in Winter Soldier.

He strikes, withdraws, returns, and strikes again.

And while the enemy struggles to keep up, Natasha is already preparing her next contingency.

Build the network. Control the encounter. Deploy the Winter Soldier. Finish the mission.

Every preparation has a purpose.

Every agent has a role.

Every mission has a plan.

And Natasha Romanoff is always three steps ahead.
