Drax does not want to avoid the villain's attacks. He wants more of them.
The goal is to build Drax's Vengeance counters as quickly as possible and then stay in hero form, turning every additional attack into fuel for an increasingly dangerous Drax.
"Fight Me, Coward!" represents everything this deck wants to do: ready Drax, draw a card, and immediately invite the villain to attack again. Once DWI Theet Mastery is in play, every basic attack also replaces itself with another card, allowing Drax to keep attacking without running out of momentum.
Protection is here not to prevent Drax from being attacked, but to make sure he can survive being attacked repeatedly. Parry, Preemptive Strike and Side Step control incoming damage, while Shake It Off turns any attack that gets through into a Tough status card for the next one.
Come Get Me, Bub! adds even more enemies to the fight while healing Drax and giving him Tough. Hard Knocks provides another source of Tough while dealing with minions, and Mantis gives Drax the sustain he needs to remain in hero form and protect his Vengeance counters.
Once Drax reaches full Vengeance, the deck changes gears. Knife Leap becomes free, adding +5 ATK, piercing and overkill to an already massive basic attack. Leading Blow provides additional readying, while Payback lets Drax punish enemies during the villain phase.
Starhawk, Moondragon and Mantis provide just enough support without getting in Drax's way. They are there when he needs them — but whenever possible, Drax wants the villain's attention entirely on himself.
This is not a deck about defending Drax from the villain.
It's about defending the villain from Drax.
