Luke Cage is here and he does not disappoint! His unlimited toughs is very on brand for the comic character and reminiscent of another favorite of mine Colossus with some key differences.
This deck is a minion slayer that relies on events as opposed to basic attacking.
Why Minions?:
First off I'm a sucker for minion slaying decks but beyond that Luke does have his upgrade Cruisin' for a Bruisin' which allows each attack to deal 2 extra damage and overkill. We have Marked in here also to ensure we have other upgrades for our minons and Contingency Planning to store them for when needed.
To take out minions he has 2 cards in kit that fit the bill in "Sweet Christmas!" and Knuckle Sandwich. While Sweet Christmas may seem TOUGH to play (I'm punny) it really ends up being pretty easy to play if you manage your toughs well. Combined with Cruisin this card packs a serious punch, I have beeb able to clear 3 minions with it while dealing Overkill to the villain as well as the base 5.
But because I love options we also have the new Size Advantage which deals a minimum of 3 damage but can be 6 if you have more hit points than the enemy. This can help finish off most minions as well as villains later in the game.
One by One combos extremely well with Cruisin as it jumps the damage to 4 and if that defeats the minion we get to deal 2 more damage to another enemy.
Toe to Toe is my favorite card to play with Luke and it has some phenomenal synergy with his kit. Beyond the defeating a minion we can combo it with cruisin for overkill as well as drawing a card from Power Man for losing a tough.
Having Fogwell's Gym in play make this even better as we can give ourselves a free ready. Have Luke attack/thwart then playe Toe to toe having a minion attack knocking a tough off which let's you ready as a defender lost a tough. This can let you either flip to AE or use another basic power.
With most of the attack events being pretty cheap we have Test the Defense to deal more damage once we have played 5 attack events.
You Ready For This:
This deck has quite a few readies as Spoiling for a Fight can find us minion and ready us playing into our strategy.
Harlem's Hero let's get a tough and ready as many characters as we have toughs.
Then Fogwell's Gym can generate us a tough in the hero phase after using Toe to Toe.
Alter Ego:
Luke does like to get to AE for the Burstein Process to give us more toughs and since we are slaying minions we are also going to take advantage of Hall of Heroes to generate some card draw and big turns.
The allies here all play a part towards our deck strategy:
Spider-Girl can stun/confuse a minion allowing us another turn to set up our upgrades.
She-Hulk gives us a tough which can really help keep our events in peak form.
Psylocke can generate confuse for safe flip downs.
Overall this deck has been a ton of fun and has handled itself extremely well in testing. I'd love to hear any feedback or experiences with it!
