Cactus America

This is an attempt at making a fun Captain America Protection deck. It's focused around the Retaliate key word, and at defeating minions in the Villain Phase. The latter should be seen as more like a bonus ability that triggers now and then. I've added that bit just to be able to get some extra cards through Change of Fortune since many of Cap's abilities are paid for not in resources, but in cards.

It's a standard set-'em-up type of build. I usually mulligan for upgrade cards, as it's good to get Super-Soldier Serum, Defensive Conditioning and Change of Fortune out as soon as possible. Change of Fortune starts paying off early, as I start with Captain America's Shield which has Retaliate 1. The Cuts Both Ways will wreak havoc with minions and the Villain both.

When I manage to get Endurance or Defensive Conditioning out, followed by Dauntless every one within reach will start hurting.

I use Brother Voodoo to find events like Powerful Punch or Cuts Both Ways. If I find a good defensive card, I discard or use it early, so that Jocasta can pull it up and keep it on hand for me.

Yellowjacket is supposedly good for helping me find my upgrades but in ten games, all he's found me is my silly helmet. Good work, Hank. Thanks!

I use First Hit and Powerful Punch to cut down on troublesome minions or the villain.

If it looks like I might start to take damage when I have Dauntless running, I defend more earnestly or use cards like Side Step or Shield Block to keep me on or above starting hit points.

Another valuable card, that ties the deck together is of course "Come Get Me, Bub!" that I use both as a blocker, healer or to find a minion to knock out for extra cards. Sometimes I use it just to whittle down the Encounter deck's arsenal of nasty cards.
