Perfect Alter-Ego Defense

Colossus vs Expert Apocalypse Playthrough

This is a custom deck request from Sean, one of my channel members. His parameters was a perfect defense Colossus protection deck without using Repurpose. Colossus is a pretty underrated hero especially in true solo, but with this deck he's able to handle threat and deal with the powerful prelate minions by himself. Huge thank you to Sean for the idea for this build as it's my new favorite way to play Piotr!

Alter-Ego EVERY Turn

Colossus has a handsize of 6 in alter-ego and a handsize of 4 in hero form. Because of this big resource advantage he usually wants to end the player phase in alter-ego. With Ready for a Fight from Silk's hero pack, Colossus can effectively "Armor Up" more reliably and flip literally every turn as shown in this playthrough against expert Apocalypse.

Perfect Defense

Perfect Defense deck for Colossus! Defense is very complicated in Marvel Champions so this Colossus deck which revolves around defending is difficult to pilot. Colossus usually wants to face tank attacks because he has a tough status card to absorb all the damage, but the "perfect defense" engine like Hard to Ignore/Unflappable/Electrostatic Armor requires Colossus to "defend" an attack to trigger so even if he doesn't take damage with his tough status card, he's still not defending and can’t normally activate the perfect defense engine.

Initiate "Defending"

Our main way to initiate "defending" with this deck is with Powerful Punch and Defiance. Since both of these events have the defense keyword, they put Colossus in a state to where he is considered defending even if he does not exhaust so he can trigger the abilities of Hard to Ignore/Unflappable/Electrostatic Armor because he won't take damage with his tough status card. If we do not draw into our defense events, we rely on Indomitable so we can use our basic activation to exhaust and defend, then immediately ready back up. We also have Jocasta to grab a defense event to improve on the reliability of triggering the perfect defense engine.

Armor Up & Ready for a Fight

The main hook with Colossus is his identity-specific event--Armor Up. This deck leans into that by ending every player phase in alter-ego. Then when the villain attacks we play Armor Up to flip up, defend, and proc the "perfect defense" engine. Each time we flip down to alter-ego, we want to trigger Piotr's response, Aspiring Artist to grab a copy of Armor Up and shuffle it back into the deck. To improve the reliability of flipping up to change the villain's scheme activation into an attack, we also have Ready for a Fight and Practiced Plan to recur it. Unfortunately both these upgrades are max 1 per player so we can't just load them all on the table, but if we combine this Armor Up it becomes very consistent.

Ally Selection

The allies in this deck are strong thwarters to help Colossus manage threat before he's able to get the 3 Hard to Ignores down. Once the Hard to Ignores are in play, Colossus will be able to consistently remove threat every turn by defending.

Fun deck! Very similar to one I published recently that I brought to the Con of Heroes and defended 4p fairly easily:

Definitely some different card choices, which is to be expected when you are playing it in solo. Thanks for sharing!
