The Blue Mage

In Final Fantasy RPGs a Blue Mage is a Job or Class which learns its spells from various enemies. That's 100% NOT what's going on here! Magik is a Blue Mage because she's a MYSTIC using the Leadership Aspect, and she employs several spells!

Magik discards cards from her deck in several ways:

  • Legion
  • Scrying
  • Summoning Spell (I like to have Pixie in the discard pile or my hand when I play this, because she's the only ally whose Response triggers when played from hand).

This makes Digging Deep come to hand fairly often, but I'm not using White Fox because she "turns off" Uncanny X-Men and Utopia. However, the deck isn't built around discarding to get Digging Deep though. That's just a bonus on top of Digging Deep having a resource. If I get to add it to my hand that's awesome, but I'm just as happy having it sit on top of my deck because it kicks all of her cards which care about a specific or wild resource on top:

I could use The Power of Leadership, The Power in All of Us, Innovation, or Effective Leadership, but Digging Deep does have that "add to hand" benefit whereas the others don't!

I like the idea of "Useful" wilds! Maybe I should say multi-purpose wilds?

@THE_NickFury I've run some test games and they've gone pretty well. I can't start recording until the 1st because I'm letting the poll run through the 31st lol.

@Champion I didn't think of it like that, but I like "Multi-Purpose Wilds". I either use them to kick my abilities or add them to hand with discard effects. Nice!

That’s awesome! I love the mash up of final fantasy job roles with marvel champions characters

@andyr thanks! Rogue actually comes a lot closer to being a "true" Blue Mage (have to get The Sorcerer Supreme on her of course), and I played around with a Blue Mage deck for her for a couple of weeks. That build was about changing up the deck between scenarios in a campaign to best take advantage of the traits you'd get from the Villains and Minions. It was very much "preparing for the next boss fight" like you would in a Final Fantasy game :). BUT, as with pretty much all of my Rogue decks the idea was fun but the deck was WILDLY inconsistent, so I deleted it LOL.

I think Triage is a good inclusion you made here so that Legion might not always have to heal himself once/if you're able to get him into play. He's such an asset in a Magik deck! I also like the way Utopia complements Stepping Disk to give even more readies to Magik.
