X-23 - The Alpha and the Omega!
Back from the drawing board with a new version of the deck that feels ooohhh so good!
Lets get to the Nitty Gritty!
Cards:
The Alphas
Black widow: A great way to get rid of a pesky encounter card that comes up! Combo's nicely with Grim Resolve.
Brother Voodoo: Extremely valuable effect! He can find an event from the top 5 cards of your deck, pick the right event for the situation for maximum value!
Gambit: A great addition to this deck! You can permanently remove a really bad encounter all game if you wish, and if you get lucky and find a card with 3-4 boost icons, you have a powerhouse of an ally in your hands!
The Omegas
Taunt: Who doesn't like card draw? I surely do! Also you can do a cheeky retaliation/splashback damage play when you defend, and you could even throw in a Counter Punch for added damage!
Leading Blow: Buff yourself up and assault that enemy! With all of the buffs that can get you to 7 attack power, you are guaranteed to hit and ready!
Counter-Punch: Kept 1 in as a nice option for when you are fully buffed up to defend against the villian and give that villian a big smack back!
Repurpose: An MVP card! Not only does it ready you, but it can use the Energy Barrier for an added +2 attack for the entire round! You know what that means, Buff yourself up to 5-7 attack damage all round (with Claw Mastery and Repurpose using Energy Barrier), ready multiple times for big swings, and if you have Counter Punch in your hand, Use it in the villian attack phase to smack the villian for 5-7 on top of retaliate damage!
Med Team: With all of the defending we do, we are bound to take damage. Med team has many uses, you can heal yourself and if you'd like to keep Honey Badger going longer, you can heal her damage! A great healing option when Regenerative Longevity is nowhere to be found!
Armored Vest: Sometimes the villian hits quite hard! That +1 Defense really goes a long way, especially when trying to go for our 1 damage taken threshold to ready up! Combos nicely with Energy Barrier and Unflappable!
Electrostatic Armor: Part of our retaliation/spashback damage package (Adamantium Lacing, Electrostatic Armor and Energy Barrier). We want to make sure that every time an enemy attacks, and we defend, we give them a little something to take back home! 3 damage splashback is nothing no joke!
Endurance: +3 hit points alongside our Adamantium Lacing brings us up to a whopping maximum hp of 15! The more hp to play with, the more damage we can do without worries!
Energy Barrier: An MVP card! It's part of our retaliation/splashback damage combo, our Repurpose combo and Unflappable!
Unflappable: Let's face it. Sometimes we defend and the enemy doesn't do enough damage to us to ready during the villian phase. Now we don't have to be so sad anymore because we can draw a card if we don't take any damage!
Cut Cards and Final Thoughts!
I've experimented quite a bit with this deck, and spent sleepless nights staring at the ceiling and deciding on how to make the best possible deck I could!
Here are some cards that didn't make the cut:
Professor X: This was one of the hardest cards for me to let go of, I still have sleepless nights over it... He is a great card, the beauty about him is not only is he a chump blocker, not only does he thwart 3, not only can he confuse the villian, but he can ready Gambit or Honey Badger! I ultimately didn't place him in the deck because the allies I chose to use in this deck have control/advantage purposes. Gambit can remove a card from the game (unless he dies), Voodoo draws an event that could be crucial, and Black widow sits there, waiting for a nasty encounter to counter it! All of these allies also have respectable thwarting power! You could replace Gambit with Professor X if you really wish to, but i prefer it this way.
Gametime/Protective training: Some people do like to have Honey Badger as the star of the show, but with my luck i'm drawing my obligation and my whole combo goes to hell! These are also dead cards in your hand if you don't have Honey Badger out, and I don't want to rely on Honey Badger so much.
What Doesn't Kill Me: A fan favorite card. You could replace Leading Blow with this card but its a costly 2 resources as opposed to 0 for Leading Blow! My goal of the deck was to keep costs super low. We already heal plenty from Med Team and Regenerative Longevity.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and read through this! As always, I encourage suggestions and feedback! I hope you enjoy playing this deck as much as I have been!
Thank you and Happy Clawing!
