I emphasize Colo, Ice Man and Wolverine for minion heavy games. They help immensely with protection from minions with stun, tough, healing and heavy hits (3, 2 and 3 ATK: EVEN MORE WITH EXPLOIT WEAKNESS and EVEN MORE MORE WITH FIELD COMMANDER).

When I have 3-4 allies in play I may use IM to freeze those hot-headed jerks, then let him sit and CHILLLLL.

Try hard to keep those upgrades on the villain and minions with FC in play. I used more discipline and patience, which allowed me to do so. I was too focused on the now.
