Blade joins the Guardians of the Galaxy! Vampires, aliens and alien-vampires beware!
The goal of this deck is to get Blade into play and build him up as quickly as possible. Because Blade has the Avengers trait and gains the Guardians trait from Star Lord, his suite of attachments is staggering. At full power, he has 5 attack and 3 thwart (with the bonus from Leader of the Guardians), deals 1 additional damage on any activation from Power Gloves and gains an additional ready from Sky Cycle. That’s 12 damage or 6 thwart plus 2 damage every turn!
Oh, and he has ranged and overkill on every attack. No problem. Retaliate enemies? No problem. Guard minions? No problem-o.
So, Blade is your main target to mulligan towards. This is where Call for Aid pulls its weight. Blade is a guaranteed hit and once he’s in play the Call for Aid cards conveniently have printed Physical resources to fuel Blade’s activations. Same goes for the extra copies of attachments after they’re equipped to Blade.
Star Lord doesn’t just sit back and let Blade take all the glory. He brings his Element Guns to the table, turning two resources into an additional 6 damage. The Element Guns also have piercing which is the last piece of your puzzle towards dealing with enemy threats. Now, not even tough status cards can slow you down.
Once everything’s set up your hand becomes bullets firing relentlessly into the enemies in front of you. You’ll need 2 Physical resources for Blade’s 2 activations and an additional 2 resources to trigger Star Lord’s Element Guns which leaves you with one card in hand leftover. Which Star Lord can play (mostly) free of charge with his hero ability.
Enter Blaze of Glory. Use Star Lord’s ability and take the encounter and now both Star Lord and Blade have +2 to both ATK and THW. Not many villains are going to survive what comes next. 6 damage from Element Guns, 3 damage from Star Lord and 16 damage from Blade is a whopping 25 damage turn.
After Blaze of Glory, you’ll want to flip down to Alter Ego where Peter Quill no longer has the Guardian trait and, absent of Star Lord’s hero ability, neither does Blade. And suddenly Blaze of Glory’s end of turn damage has no targets.
Even better than Blaze of Glory, Star Lord’s Sliding Shot, when played with Star Lord’s ability, deals 11 damage.
And there you have it! Simple and straight forward but tons of fun when enemy HP melts in a storm of Blades and bullets.
