Precon Recon · 637

Welcome back to Precon Recon, the series that looks to make the most effective and thematic decks possible out of the limited card pool provided. Today, we're updating our Captain America deck to something a bit more oriented to his shield and his time with SHIELD. If you want to get a breakdown of his core set, feel free to check out our original article here: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2741051/1-2-punchboards-precon-recon-captain-america

Nothing Will Bring Us Down

With a shield strapped to his arm, Cap has always been seen as a protector first, and this deck looks to capitalize on that as often as possible. His deck is filled with powerful defense events, all fueled by Nerves of Steel and his Super Soldier Serum, with the hopes of protecting himself and his friends, all while readying himself often. Even when an event doesn't get him back on his feet, you can toss a card from hand (often an unplayed defense event) in order to ready him, meaning there's far fewer instances where players will be taking unnecessary blows.

A few strong allies have been sprinkled in the deck, inspired by his time as a SHIELD agent and Avenger. Nick Fury, Mockingbird, and _Black Widow _all give up effects that let you control the board while _Jocasta _gives you access to another defense event when in your time of need. _Black Widow _is obviously not a fantastic card in general, but her effect feels very fitting here when needed and her role here feels pretty thematic.

Overwise, you'll be bumping up Cap's defense stat with _Armored Vest _and his shield, allowing you to prevent tons of damage and get extra card draw with Unflappable. It's still not a terribly complex build, but it's effective, fun, and gives your fellow players a ton of flexibility to let their effects pop off all the more often.
