Hero Interrupt (defense): When an enemy attacks, declare your hero as the defender without exhausting them.

This card is essentially 2 ER to defend an additional time. Nothing special, but a fair rate for an extra defense. If you are already ready when you play this, it accomplishes the same thing as Indomitable or Desperate Defense which let you re-ready after defending. This adds the ability to defend if you are already exhausted, which is very niche but could come up if you want to exhaust for your first defense because you aren't sure you'll get the chance to defend again, or if you surge Exhaustion into Assault. It's hard to imagine doing anything too powerful with this, but as a way to defend some more, this is fine - especially in multiplayer where more attacks occur per round. The most obvious hero to play this card is Captain America for flavor purposes (though he can be a serviceable defender)

Unless I am mistaken (and I really hope I am on this, or that it receives an FAQ/errata), but isn't the only effect of this card to put you in the way of an attack, like any "Hero Interrupt (defense)", while doing literally nothing else?

The text of the event specifies timing, so you can use it for any enemy attack (as opposed to some Defenses), but for all other intents and purposes, it only puts you in front of an attack, and nothing else. It doesn't say to make a basic defend without Exhausting, which I believe is the true intent of this card.

Take for example, the simulatenously released Cuts Both Ways, which for 1ER does exactly the same effect (defending), on the same trigger, with the upside of getting a point of Retaliate. And it's cheaper.

Someone sanity check me, please.

The difference is that this card says "declare your hero as the defender". From the Rules Reference, "When a card ability says to 'declare [a hero] the defender' of an attack, that hero is considered to be making a basic defense." Because the hero is making a basic defense, it reduces the incoming attack by the DEF value — Stretch22 · 1862
Thank you very much for your reply. I knew something had to be up with it. It's an interesting card, in this case, a worse Desperate Defense, but without the gamble. — Harleqyin · 36

This card feels very underwhelming in solo. However, it's a MASSIVE defense option for higher count games. The card redirects a villain attack, regardless if your hero is ready and that is absolutely amazing. Imagine this scenario in a 3-player game:

The defending player is first. They can either defend for themselves, or take a hit and hopefully defend for the second player in the round. They can use various ready-effects, some of which conditional and risky, such as Desperate Defense. Now enter "I Can Do This All Day". They can just play it at any time they desire, with full control over redirecting the attack and taking advantage of their DEF, all the while not having to be ready for this to occur. Normally, you could only do this with Preemptive Strike.

The card is zero effort required to take full advantage of your DEF stat. It literally reads "take an attack and reduce the damage by your DEF (which should be at least 3-5 in Protection)". No perfect defense required, player order doesn't matter, just pure defense for those who take the role seriously and buff their stat. A ready effect without the ready effect, for the purposes of defending.

It's an amazing deal for defending heroes in high player count games and probably an insignificant card for those playing solo.
