I've been asking myself how to make the best use of the "Training" cards that have been made available to us. It seems to me that Spider-Woman is pretty much the top choice here, because it will let her re-use some of her signature cards, Pheromones, and Contaminant Immunity.
So, I built this deck and so far, it's been fun to play and holds up nicely (altough I didn't try the campaigns yet). I did a quick search before writing this: so far only one other author, Onions, has done a similar experiment, altough his decklist and mine differ greatly. Good job on seeing the potential!

Basic idea
You want to play Spider-Woman's strenghts. To me, Pheromones and Contaminant Immunity are the key to her success, locking down the villain and keeping your hp high while negating damage.
-
recursion of Pheromones: use Black Panther and Leadership Training.
-
recursion of Contaminant Immunity: use Defensive Training AND SOON, JOCASTA from the Vision pack (I plan on taking out one Indomitable to play Jocasta).
Don't forget "training" cards are Alter-Ego cards. Doesn't matter much as you'll often go bas to AE with a confused villain, draw 6, use Jessica Drew's Apartment, benefit from your Training cards...
Priorities:
Play both Finesse and Deft Focus! This will allow you to play 2-3cards a turn, making you a 4/4/4 and keeping the villain locked down.
A few notes on the choice of cards / combos:
-
Rapid Response can trigger Black Panther's ability as it doesn't say "played from your hand". Same is true regarding JOCASTA.
-
block with Expert Defense for up to +4 def (using the +1 boost to your stats if it's the first green card you play this turn) and use Indomitable or Self-Propelled Glide to get ready.
-
lots of draw/attached cards from allies (Maria Hill, White Tiger, Black Panther, JOCASTA).
-
heal Warlock, bring Starhawk back to your hand to re-play for 2 permanent allies on the board. Very useful for THW, ping off though statuses, help with minions.
-
use Venom Blast and your own powered-up atk to take down the villain.

Jan 14, 2022Thanks a lot! To answer your question, I would choose Leading Blow in protection and Morale Boost in leadership! Morale Boost is actually +2 to all your stats if it's the first leadership card you play. Leading Blow is +1 to all, plus the opportunity to ready and attack with boosted stats, at a "0". |

Jan 14, 2022Cool deck! I've been tinkering with a very similar one. The training cards are such a neat addition for Spider-woman due to her unique aspect cards. One question tho; have you tried crew quarters? Exhausting to heal is very costly for S-W, and you will form swap quite a lot. I found crew quarters superior to endurance anyway :) |

That's why you REALLY need your 2 Finesse and Deft Focus. This allows you to play a few cards every turn and get decent attacks. Venom Blast is essential to your success here. I really like that Self-Propelled Glide can be paid in full with Deft Focus, real helpful. And also, that's the reason you really want to revert to AE when the villain is confused: you need the 6 cards hand, and the use of Jessica Drew's Apartment, to get somewhere. All in all the Klaw game went well, but it was really long (got through the encounter deck twice). I think to get solid minion control as SW, you'd need to play aggro. Altough Hard Knocks could have been a good idea. Played right, it could also help with the tough status theme. May try this out yet! |
Jan 17, 2022Wow! More Pheromones! Glad to see some love for Warlock as well. I was wondering how much use you get out of Expert Defense. Do you find that +3 defense is needed? |

Nice use of the Training cards. I've been playing around with an Adam Warlock deck to use them all.
I actually prefer my Spider-Woman decks in the 45 card to 50 card range to improve the odds of getting an aspect card. What cards would you add from each aspect to bring the deck to 46 or so?
